The Rocker may have three wheels and pedals but to call it a tricycle would be far wide of the mark. More accurately describe as a recumbent cycle, the Rocker lets the rider take a comfortable leaned back seating position, close to the ground.
The pedals drive the front wheel via a chain, similar to bicycles. The front wheel has a pneumatic tyre so bumps won’t make your feet slip off the pedals; plus the pedals are designed to grip well onto footwear. There are mudguards over the rear wheels; which are essential because the rider is close to the ground and the grip handles are in front of the rear wheels as well.
On the Rocker you lean to steer. With the help of the grip handles you shift your weight to the side want the vehicle to turn to.
It’s easy to go fast on level, smooth ground and I had great fun speeding along the aisles of large toy store in Co. Dublin, Ireland. I hasten to add that the shop was having a quiet late evening and I took things steadily when turning corners.
I recommend the Rocker as fun pedal powered vehicle to travel away from public highways but it’s not an outright replacement for a bicycle. Not only is a favourite of The Toy Detectives, Hamleys named the Rocker as their Toy of the Year 2007.
