Magtastik, Magnetix Jr. and MagnaMan toys sold between January 2005 and December 2007, supplied by Mega Brands, have been recalled due to the potential risks of magnets becoming loose and swallowed.

Loose magnets found by young children could be swallowed or breathed-in. If more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attract each other and cause intestinal perforations or blockages, which can be fatal. The magnets were embedded into the parts of the construction toy to allow assembly by a child.

There have been 25 reports of magnets coming loose from MagnaMan products and 19 from the Magtastik and Magnetix Jr. ranges. One incident involved a three year-old who had to have a magnet removed from his nasal cavity, while an 18 month-old was found to have a magnet in his mouth but did not swallow it.

The affected products have stopped being produced and should be returned. More information at the Mega Brands website.
