LEGO Jury to Deliberate Over Shaun of the Dead Winchester Pub Set

LEGO: Shaun of the Dead minifigures The LEGO jury is out, deliberating on whether a supporter’s model based upon The Winchester pub scence from the film: The Shaun of the Dead, is innocent enough to be at liberty and placed in toy shops.

However, The Toy Detectives suspect this amazing set may never be released.

The design was submitted to a LEGO website called CUUSOO, by a user who likes to be known by the online moniker: Yatkuu.

Cuusoo is an online forum, where users can vote for and comment upon creations fans have uploaded. If a design receives 10,000 votes, then LEGO promise to consider the proposal.

LEGO: The Winchester - Shaun of the Dead

The living and the undead outside The Winchester.

The Winchester model quickly reached that magic number, helped by encouragement from its lead actor Simon Pegg via Twitter. With Shaun Of The Dead being a gory flick for a grown-ups it’s highly unlikely that it will see the official light of day. However, it’s certainly a great model that will hopefully inspire LEGO builders to re-create replicas.

Bar brawl: “Oi! You spilt my pint.”

Note the part used to represent the handle of a beer pump (pictured above), almost available for free if you buy a Pick-A-Brick cup from a LEGO Store, as they always easily slip into any readily available gap.

LEGO: Has yet to to include a cricket bat in one of its sets

Smiles all round, as the double yellow line outside The Winchester is changed to a single yellow.

LEGO: what a lock-in might look like if The Winchester pub from Shaun of the Dead is re-created in ABS plastic.

I’ll drink to that: a “lock-in” at The Winchester.

Whilst, LEGO continues to overlook adding a British public house to its (more than 4,000 set) range of releases, The Toy Detective – in his youth – wasted little time demolishing police stations, fire houses and even an airport terminal building to gather sufficient bricks to build a saloon bar fit for LEGO townsfolk. Cylindrical, single studded pieces (in various colours) do a remarkable job of representing pints of lager, Guinness and real ale. Those tiny, transparent, single studded circles (that are often used for vehicle headlights) make convincing ash trays (if nowadays, the nation one resides in doesn’t prohibit smoking within the walls of one’s local tavern).

(Mr/Mrs/Ms/Miss/Master/Dr) Yatkuu, we salute your fine architectural work; and if the LEGO judges return an unfavourable verdict, I hope the blueprints will be set free into (LEGO) society.
