Breyer are to make a model of Joey – the horse that was a character in Michael Morpurgo’s 1982 children’s book War Horse.
The book, which has since been adapted to theatre and will soon have a cinematic release this Decembe, is set in England during World War I. In 1914, Joey, a young farm horse, is sold to the army and sent to the war with the cavalry on the Western Front. Joey witnesses the full horror of the frontline. Having been owned by a village farmer, a heartbroken farmer’s son called Albert goes in search of his beloved horse.
“I was deeply moved when I read War Horse,” said Stephanie Macejko, Vice President of Marketing and Product Development at Breyer Animal Creations. “We are thrilled to be able to create Michael Morpurgo’s Joey in a figurative form that can be treasured by children who loved the story of Albert and Joey as much as I did.”
