Etch-A-Sketch Inventor André Cassagnes Dies Aged 86

Etch A Sketch on The Toy Detective's deskAndré Cassagnes, the inventor of Etch-A-Sketch, passed away aged 86 in Paris on 16th January 2013.

The famous dial operated drawing screen was invented by Cassagnes in the late 1950s. He named the toy L’Ecran Magique (Magic Screen), in 1959 The Ohio Art Company bought the design and launched it in 1960.

Etch-A-Sketch is still widely sold today; and in more than 50 years of existence over 100 million have been sold.Continue Reading
