Hamley’s, the famous toy shop, has been sold to Groupe Ludendo (a French firm) for an undisclosed sum, thought to be in the region of £60 million.
Groupe Ludendo owns over 300 toy stores, situated in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Spain. The company began in 1977 as single toy shop in a north Parisian suburb, its brands now include La Grande Récré, Starjouet and Franz Carl Weber.Continue Reading

Contrary to popular belief Christmas does not come earlier every year; 25th December is a firm date in the Gregorian calendar. However, it could be argued, that lists of top Yuletide toys released by big name stores do arrive earlier (although last year Tesco couldn’t even wait until late June) .
Today Hamleys announced its own top ten predictions for 2012 and a “Magnificent Seven” selection of toys that Santa Claus may bring to very lucky children.
A press event called “Christmas in June” was held by Hamleys. Journalists had the opportunity to get close to some toys that have yet to be released in the shops. Meanwhile, outdoors the mercury reached 25 degrees centigrade.
In Hamley’s top 10 predictions: two iPad-style tablet computers were included; a safe bet as the bestselling performance of last year’s InnoTab and LeapPad is expected to be repeated. Also, whether you think they are gross or gorgeous, Monster High is the fashion dolls range on the list. A much anticipated range of LEGO based on The Lord Of The Rings is also represented. Many older brand names also make a return to toy stores this year and Hamleys have faith in the popularity of Cabbage Patch Kids and Subbuteo returning to today’s children.
Hamleys is all ways worth a visit, and will form part of a day out for many children this half term. The shop windows of the store on London’s Regents Street, always gain plenty of interest; more recently that has increased as some special window dressing has been done to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
A pair of extra large Yoo Hoo & Friends appear robed in regal garments in one window. Then there is a portrait of Elizabeth II made entirely from Hama Beads. Numerous Paddington Bear soft toys and other merchandise appear in another display. Finally, there’s the crowd-stopping, a mural of the Queen made entirely of LEGO.Continue Reading
