Legoland’s little people may be small in stature but the vast population of Minifigures must drive the most vehicles in the entire world if a recent Guinness World Record is to be believed. Apparently, LEGO now are the world’s largest tyre manufacturer; beating famous brands, such as, Good Year, M ichelin, Pirelli and more.
318 million LEGO tyres are moulded on its production lines each year; that’s over 870,000 produced every day. In fact, nearly half of all LEGO sets include a wheel of some kind.
Emma Owen, PR and Promotions Manager at LEGO UK said: “Being awarded a Guinness World Record for largest tyre manufacture per annum is likely to be a surprise to many, but not to us and we are thrilled to take this record, 50 years after the invention of the LEGO tyre.
Naturally we have previously broken records for creating the tallest LEGO towers, however with LEGO bricks, creativity holds no bounds and we have adopted this theory and looked outside the box with this latest world record challenge.”
The first true LEGO wheel was released in 1962, in set No. 400. In 1967, this particular kit became LEGO’s bestseller, with 820,400 boxes sold. The smallest LEGO wheel stands 14.4 mm high and belongs to a small two-seater car. While the largest LEGO wheel is 10.7 cm high and features in the Technic Power Puller kit (8457), which was launched in 2000.
