Recalled Mothercare Baby Safari My First Keys


Mothercare has recalled a teething toy for babies because the door to the battery compartment can come off, exposing the button battery cell.

My First Keys is an own-brand Mothercare product that was sold in its stores and website from June 2017 to April 2018.
The loose batteries are a serious risk to young children. Not only are button cell batteries a small part that pose a choking risk but could also cause severe esophageal or airway burns and can even cause death.

The recalled toy is a hard plastic red monkey with soft plastic keys hanging from it. The product’s code is 914353 which can be found on the packaging, it also has a style code MG262, which is printed on both the packaging and on the back of the toy.

Only toys with either of the following batch codes are affected by this recall:

  • 02-161024
  • 02-161205
  • 02-170509

The batch code can be seen on the back of the toy, as indicated in the picture below.

If you have this toy, stop its use immediately and return it to a Mothercare store where a full refund will be given.

In a statement, Mothercare said “This action has been taken to ensure the safety and well-being of our customers and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
