Tesco has announced that it will close its non-food website, Tesco Direct.
The company has concluded that there is no route to profitability for this loss-making part of the business
Approximately 500 staff will be at risk of redundancy because of this decision. Tesco intends to close its Fenny Lock Distribution Centre in Bletchley.
Tesco Direct will cease trading on 9 July 2018, however, its Tesco.com website will offer a range of toys, home and cookware.
Charles Wilson, CEO of Tesco UK & ROI, said: “This decision has been a very difficult one to make, but it is an essential step towards establishing a more sustainable non-food offer and growing our business for the future.”
